WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Medicare program is about keeping promises to millions of seniors who have put in a lifetime of hard work, President Barack Obama said Saturday in his radio and Internet address and in a new campaign ad.
The president used his weekly address to discuss the surging campaign issue, saying his goal is to strengthen Medicare and preserve the program for future generations. He made no mention of Republican rival Mitt Romney in the address.
But the new 30-second television ad says Romney "would break that promise" and replace the current Medicare system with a voucher program that wouldn't keep up with costs.
"Insurance companies could just keep raising rates," the new ad says.
Under a plan proposed by Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, starting in 2023 Medicare would be radically changed. New retirees would get a fixed amount of government money to pick either private health insurance or a federal plan modeled on Medicare. Ryan says that would keep the program solvent.
The Obama administration says the change could cost retirees as much as $6,400 a year.
Romney has accused Obama of cutting more than $700 billion from Medicare to pay for his health care law.
In the Republican's weekly address, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said the nation is being hurt by "the looting of the Treasury and 20 years of deficit spending."

The year was 1950, and The Magic 8-Ball had just arrived in stores. It looked like a toy, but it wasn?t. It was a future-telling device, powered by the unknown superpowers that lived inside its cheap plastic shell. Despite a bit of an attitude??Don?t count on it,? ?My reply is no??it was a huge success. Americans, apparently, want to see their futures.
A few decades later, Congress passed the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act that, among other things, turned the 45,000 food products in the average supermarket into fortune-telling devices. Americans inexplicably yawned. I?m trying to change that. Why? The nutrition label can predict the future size of your pants and health care bills.
Unfortunately, these labels aren?t as clear and direct as the Magic 8-Ball. Consider the list of ingredients: The Food and Drug Administration has approved more than 3,000 additives, most of which you?ve never heard of. But the truth is, you don?t have to know them all. You just need to be able to parse out the bad stuff. Do that and you?ll have a pretty good idea how your future will shape up?whether you?ll end up overweight and unhealthy or turn out to be fit, happy, and energized.
While researching the new Eat This, Not That! 2013: The No-Diet Weight Loss Solution, I identified 8 ingredients you never want to see on the nutrition label. Should you put down products that contain them? As the Magic 8-Ball would say: Signs point to yes.
This preservative is used to prevent rancidity in foods that contain oils. Unfortunately, BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) has been shown to cause cancer in rats, mice, and hamsters. The reason the FDA hasn?t banned it is largely technical?the cancers all occurred in the rodents? forestomachs, an organ that humans don?t have. Nevertheless, the study, published in the Japanese Journal of Cancer Research, concluded that BHA was ?reasonably anticipated to be a carcinogen,? and as far as I?m concerned, that?s reason enough to eliminate it from your diet.
You?ll find it in: Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles
These synthetic preservatives are used to inhibit mold and yeast in food. The problem is parabens may also disrupt your body?s hormonal balance. A study in Food Chemical Toxicology found that daily ingestion decreased sperm and testosterone production in rats, and parabens have been found present in breast cancer tissues.
You?ll find it in: Baskin-Robbins sundaes
?I?ve harped on this before, but it bears repeating: Don?t confuse ?0 g trans fat? with being trans fat-free. The FDA allows products to claim zero grams of trans fat as long as they have less than half a gram per serving. That means they can have 0.49 grams per serving and still be labeled a no-trans-fat food. Considering that two grams is the absolute most you ought to consume in a day, those fractions can quickly add up. The telltale sign that your snack is soiled with the stuff? Look for partially hydrogenated oil on the ingredient statement. If it?s anywhere on there, then you?re ingesting artery-clogging trans fat.
You?ll find it in: Long John Silver?s Popcorn Shrimp, Celeste frozen pizzas

Nitrites and nitrates are used to inhibit botulism-causing bacteria and to maintain processed meats? pink hues, which is why the FDA allows their use. Unfortunately, once ingested, nitrite can fuse with amino acids (of which meat is a prime source) to form nitrosamines, powerful carcinogenic compounds. Ascorbic and erythorbic acids?essentially vitamin C?have been shown to decrease the risk, and most manufacturers now add one or both to their products, which has helped. Still, the best way to reduce risk is to limit your intake.
You?ll find it in: Oscar Mayer hot dogs, Hormel bacon
This additive wouldn?t be dangerous if you made it the old-fashioned way?with water and sugar, on top of a stove. But the food industry follows a different recipe: They treat sugar with ammonia, which can produce some nasty carcinogens. How carcinogenic are these compounds? A Center for Science in the Public Interest report asserted that the high levels of caramel color found in soda account for roughly 15,000 cancers in the U.S. annually. Another good reason to scrap soft drinks? They?re among The 20 Worst Drinks in America.
You?ll find it in: Coke/Diet Coke, Pepsi/Diet Pepsi
Castoreum is one of the many nebulous ?natural ingredients? used to flavor food. Though it isn?t harmful, it is unsettling. Castoreum is a substance made from beavers? castor sacs, or anal scent glands. These glands produce potent secretions that help the animals mark their territory in the wild. In the food industry, however, 1,000 pounds of the unsavory ingredient are used annually to imbue foods?usually vanilla or raspberry flavored?with a distinctive, musky flavor.
You?ll find it in: Potentially any food containing ?natural ingredients?
Plenty of fruit-flavored candies and sugary cereals don?t contain a single gram of produce, but instead rely on artificial dyes and flavorings to suggest a relationship with nature. Not only do these dyes allow manufacturers to mask the drab colors of heavily processed foods, but certain hues have been linked to more serious ailments. A Journal of Pediatrics study linked Yellow 5 to hyperactivity in children, Canadian researchers found Yellow 6 and Red 40 to be contaminated with known carcinogens, and Red 3 is known to cause tumors. The bottom line? Avoid artificial dyes as much as possible.
You?ll find it in: Lucky Charms, Skittles, Jell-O
THE DOMINO EFFECT: Sugar doesn?t just come in the form of cookies and candy. Discover the insidious ways it can creep into your diet with 9 Sneaky Sources of Sugar.
Hydrolyzed vegetable protein, used as a flavor enhancer, is plant protein that has been chemically broken down into amino acids. One of these acids, glutamic acid, can release free glutamate. When this glutamate joins with free sodium in your body, they form monosodium glutamate (MSG), an additive known to cause adverse reactions?headaches, nausea, and weakness, among others?in sensitive individuals. When MSG is added to products directly, the FDA requires manufacturers to disclose its inclusion on the ingredient statement. But when it occurs as a byproduct of hydrolyzed protein, the FDA allows it to go unrecognized.

Are you a first time parent, anxious to know if your child is doing the things his age children do? Or are you a confused parent not sure of what to expect out of your child in his different growth years? Yes, it is true that children seem to grow at an amazing speed and before we realize are doing and asking things that leave us completely shocked and surprised.
But do not worry because every child is different. Although an understanding of basic traits that a child will show will help you keep a check on the overall development of your child and provide some relief to you as a parent. Get ready for lots of fun galore as your baby turns four.
Growth can be divided into 3 stages, physical being the first which is followed by mental or behavioural and Social or emotional. A 4 year old display clear signs of development and it is indeed a surprise when you hear or see them doing things that you never had thought of.
Every parent loves to see their child hopping and jumping around in the house. However, your four year old will do much more now. Their precision is much better and you might see them doing things that will amaze you, shock you and most importantly get you to feel proud.
Children at this age indulge in great physical activity. They will begin to run backwards and hop on one foot. While jumping from a height now their landing is more definite and balanced. The precision is also developing as now they will walk on a straight or a curved line. As a parent, be ready to hear from your little ones say that they are grown up now. They will want to dress and undress themselves and they love to unzip, unsnap and unbutton things.
They want to brush their hair themselves now. It is very important for the parents to let the kids do what they think they can and help them if they need your help. This way the feeling of inadequacy will not harbour and they will learn better. Children at this age will love to go out in a park and will be able to pump themselves up in a swing. They will also do other things like playing catch and throw.
A lot many times children end up saying or doing something that can leave the parents in complete disbelief. It is to be noted that the brain development is highest at this age. Hence, they will ask a lot of ?how? and ?why? questions and will expect answers.
They are very curious and want to know everything around them. They will begin to understand some basic concepts like day and night, near and far, empty and full, heavy and light big and small etc. They also understand words and concepts like size, weight, colour and position. Their classification skills and the ability of reasoning are increasing. They will begin to recognize shapes like circle, square and triangle. They are also able to sort out things according to their shapes.
Children at the age of 4 will willingly want to learn many new things and also try their hand at doing a few things. They will like to do craft and cut things with scissors and also do other kind of art work. At 4, they absolutely love to solve puzzles and make jigsaw puzzles. Encourage them to do so as this will help develop their brain.
Children at 4 years of age become more inclined socially and interact with everybody. It could be a complete surprise for the parents to see that as their child crosses the age of 4, all the inhibitions and reservations are forgotten and they love to talk with people. They enjoy company and will love to be with friends and siblings rather than playing alone.
They also understand the concept of sharing toys and other things. While playing games or at the park they now are willing to take turns without throwing tantrums. Their imagination is developing and they have imaginary friends in their dolls and soft toys. They also imitate parents or other people at home and play talk over the phone. Parents can expect their children to act as important adults like Doctor, Teacher etc.
They will also enjoy freedom now and they tend to brag and be bossy. Parents will be shocked to see that their 4 year old now enjoys serious conversation and discussions in the family and will want to b a part of it. They believe themselves to be important part of the family.
If every parent understands the growth of their child well there will be no room for irritation and confusion. Parents must remember that this age is also the foundation age of the children and they are willingly ready to learn and absorb everything.
Children are just like a sponge, they absorb what they are exposed to. Hence, it is on the parents to decide what they want their child to learn. Enjoy these fun years of your child as soon they will be big and busy. These innocent and joyful days will never come back.

An injured dog found with a jar on its head is on its way to recovery at a local animal hospital. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.
By Andrew Mach, NBC News
A black Labrador Retriever that was found with a plastic jar stuck around his head and cuts to one of his paws is doing well after surgery, according to volunteers from a North Texas animal group.
Animal Allies of Texas
Because the jar prevented him from eating or drinking, rescuers said Pappy was severely malnourished and underweight when they took him in.
Rescuers suspect someone cut the animal's paw so his blood would attract other dogs being trained to fight, and the jar kept him from fighting back.
After receiving a call from a woman who found the dog, now named "Pappy," wandering the streets of Oak Cliff, Texas, rescuers from?Animal Allies of Texas were able to catch him on Monday and take him to the vet.
Pappy had fleas and ticks and was severely dehydrated and emaciated when he was found. Rescuers said the jar prevented him from eating or drinking, and he weighed 65 lbs. when he should have weighed 90 lbs.
In addition to the jar, rescuers said Pappy had bite marks on him, which they say are evidence he may have been used as a bait dog in a dog-fighting ring.

?This was deliberate. The bottom of the jar had been cut out so he would not be able to get out himself,? an Animal Allies of Texas volunteer, Melody Hamilton, told NBC News. ?In my opinion, he was thrown into a situation where he was made to provoke another dog to fight.?
Animal Allies of Texas
After removing the jar, veterinarians had to amputate one of Pappy's toes that had been badly injured
Rescuers removed the jar, and on Wednesday, the lab-mix had surgery at Metro Paws Animal Hospital to amputate the first toe on his left paw. Hamilton said she suspects Pappy will stay there for a few more days to recover.
Watch the most-viewed videos on NBCNews.com
Hamilton said as Pappy?s physical condition stabilizes, vets and volunteers will shift their focus to his emotional state.
?Dog fighting is rampant in all socio-economic areas,? Hamilton said. ?Lucky for him, he escaped that situation. Now it?s a matter of dealing with all of the emotional distress.?
After Pappy has had all of his medical treatment, Animal Allies of Texas will be looking for someone to adopt him.
They are currently accepting donations to help with Pappy?s hospital bills.

Adding more fuel to the rumours that are circulating regards the arrival of Apple?s new iPhone 5 smartphone, ahead of Apple?s keynote event on September 12th.
A photo of an USB cable supposedly for Apple?s new iPhone 5 has been leaked online, and reveals a smaller connection, that is rumoured to be replacing the current 30 pin connection of the previous iPhones.
The leaked photograph reveals that the USB cable has FTC markings and what looks like a scannable QR code on the standard USB end, and the connection does reflect earlier rumours regards the design of the new dock Apple might introduce during their keynote next month.
As always as more information and even rumours surface over the next few weeks in the run up to Apple?s event we will keep you updated as always. For more information on the rumours a comparison video is also available comparing possibly leaked iPhone 5 parts vs iPhone 4S parts.

Android may be the best-selling mobile operating system in the world, but it still doesn?t inspire the same level of loyalty from its users as Apple?s (AAPL) iPhone does. Barron?s?reports that a?new survey of more than 2,000 smartphone users by?Robert W. Baird?analyst?William Power?shows that 48% of Android smartphone users plan on buying another Android device for their next smartphone while 17% say they plan to buy an iPhone and 34% say they?re undecided. The story is much different for fans of Apple?s smartphone, however, as 77% say they plan to buy an iPhone for their next smartphone, with just 5% planning to switch to Android device and 18% still undecided.
And yes, in case anyone was wondering, Power?s survey showed more awful news for RIM (RIMM), as just 2% of BlackBerry users said they were planning to purchase another BlackBerry smartphone.
The survey also threw more cold water on the idea that a Facebook (FB) phone might be successful, with just 7% of respondents saying they?d be interested. The idea of an Amazon (AMZN) phone was much more appealing, however, with 51% of respondents saying they?d be interested in purchasing a Kindle Fire-like smartphone.

A successful high-yield bond issue from mid-sized Guangzhou R&F Properties Co. could signal that Chinese developers can once again tap bond markets to plug their financing needs.
On Wednesday, Guangzhou R&F Properties increased the tap size of its April 2016 dollar bond from around $200 million to $238 million, with the yield expected to be tighter than its initial guidance of 12.375%, according to a term sheet seen by Dow Jones Newswires. The deal has attracted $2.5 billion of orders from investors ? and that?s after the mid-sized developer issued a profit warning in July.
It?s a sign that the window for Chinese developers to issue debt may be open again after a lull, as the country?s property prices begin an uptick and alarming headlines from the eurozone region decrease.
Chinese developers started looking to bond markets for funds again around March this year. Agile Property Holdings Ltd. sold a $700 million five-year bond priced at 9.875% that month, with the bond nine times oversubscribed. KWG Property Holding also sold $400 million worth of five-year bonds priced at 13.5%, but issuance has taken a breather since.
Guangzhou R&F?s in-demand bond may provide some relief to the cash-strapped real estate sector in China, which has been seeing margins squeezed due to government policies to dampen property prices, including curbs on lending and limits on home purchases. Chinese banks have also been turning off their taps in a bid to rein in credit growth, forcing developers to turn to other sources for funds, such as trust companies. In response, developers have been slashing prices to alleviate their cashflow problems.
In the first-half of this year, Deutsche Bank says average borrowing costs for Chinese developers rose by ?remarkable? levels of about 100 basis points compared with the same period a year before, as funding conditions continue to worsen for these companies.
Deutsche Bank says those who have turned to trust financing and other high-yield debt, typically non-state-owned firms, will face more pressure to get financing going forward. State-owned firms continue to get preferential financing treatment, with China Overseas Land & Investment Ltd., for example, seeing its borrowing costs widen by only about 30 basis points to 3.6% in the first half of 2012 on-year.
?In our view, this significant advantage in terms of cost of financing for the larger state-owned developers?should allow them to grow at a faster pace in the longer term, especially given the central government?s ongoing property market tightening,? wrote Deutsche Bank.
If the debt-issuance window stays open, property companies can look to Guangzhou R&F Properties? experience and trust that there are enough yield-hungry investors out there for their debt.

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. said Thursday its first-half net profit surged 31.9%, surpassing market expectations, due to strong growth in the number of subscribers of third-generation mobile services and data usage.
The country's second-largest mobile operator by subscribers said its net profit for the six months ended June 30 rose to 3.43 billion yuan ($541.86 million) from a restated CNY2.62 billion a year earlier, outperforming its main rivals, which had announced first-half results over the past two weeks. China Mobile, the biggest domestic mobile operator, reported that net profit rose by a marginal 1.5% to CNY62.20 billion over the same period, while China Telecom, the third largest mobile player, reported an 8.3% drop in net profit to CNY8.81 billion.
China Unicom's net profit was well above the average CNY2.62 billion forecast by 33 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.
A surge in popularity of accessing the Internet through mobile devices contributed to a 34% jump in the number of users of 3G mobile services at China Unicom in the first half. As of July, it has a subscriber base of 60.62 million 3G users, compared with China Mobile's 68.98 million and China Telecom's 53.81 million.
Consequently, China Unicom reported a 2.8% rise in monthly average revenue per user--a key performance barometer for telecom firms--for 3G and earlier-generation mobile services to CNY48.1 in the first half. However, ARPU for its 3G services fell 21.9% to CNY91.8.
Revenue rose 20% to CNY121.69 billion from a restated CNY101.42 billion, below the average CNY123.66 billion forecast in the poll.
China Unicom didn't declare a dividend for its first-half performance, the same as last year.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - If you have a relative who died of heart disease before age 60, your own risk of early heart trouble is higher as well, a large study from Denmark confirms.
Family history of premature heart disease has long been considered a risk factor for heart problems in future generations. The new study, of four million Danish citizens followed for three decades, strengthens the evidence.
Researchers found people with a parent or sibling who died young of heart problems were roughly twice as likely as others to be diagnosed with coronary heart disease - where "plaques" build up in the heart arteries, raising the risk of heart attack - before age 50.
They also had double the risk of suffering a ventricular arrhythmia - an often fatal rhythm disturbance in the heart's main pumping chamber.
None of that means genes are heart disease destiny, noted Dr. Amit Khera, a preventive cardiologist who was not involved in the research.
"Just because you're at elevated risk does not mean you're going to have a heart attack," said Khera, who directs the preventative cardiology program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
But, he said, the findings underscore the importance of knowing your family history - starting at a young age.
That way, Khera noted, you can make healthy lifestyle changes and talk to your doctor about any screenings you should have, like regular blood pressure and cholesterol checks.
For the study, researchers at the Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen combed through public health data on almost four million Danish citizens born after 1949.
Between 1978 and 2008, almost 130,000 of them were diagnosed with some form of cardiovascular disease before age 50.
Those odds were heightened when a first-degree relative had died of heart problems before hitting 60, the researchers report in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
But those risks were also elevated when a second-degree relative - a grandparent or half-sibling - had died young. The risk of coronary heart disease, for example, was 43 percent higher in people with one second-degree relative who had died before age 60.
"This study tells us that a grandparent's history is meaningful, too," Khera said.
And the more relatives who died young, the greater the risks. When two or more first-degree relatives had died of heart ills before age 60, a person's own risk of early heart disease rose five-fold.
"As with other chronic diseases, people should try to find out what they can about their family history," Dr. Mattis Flyvholm Ranthe, the lead researcher on the study, said in an email.
Both Ranthe and Khera said doctors should try to dig deeper into patients' family histories.
But if your doctor has not done that, Khera noted, you can still find out if any relatives died young - of heart disease or unknown causes - and bring it up to your doctor yourself.
You cannot, of course, change your genes to lower your heart risks. But you can alter your lifestyle - by not smoking, getting regular exercise and eating a healthy diet, for example.
"Know that there is something you can do about it," Khera said.
It's not fully clear how much of a difference lifestyle changes or medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol can make for people with heart disease in their family. But it's known that those steps help curb heart risks in general, Khera pointed out.
"There's no reason to suspect that preventive measures wouldn't apply to these folks as well," he said.

Your customers are using multiple channels and devices to consume information
Until recently search marketing was the channel that many companies thought they had ?all figured out?.? As the online marketing industry evolves many are finding it difficult to move into the next phase, which includes cross-channel optimization.
I recently attended a presentation from Steven Yap, Head of Emerging Products and Markets at Google where he covered that very topic.? Figuring out how search can help produce wins that really matter, and determining what role search marketing plays in a broader marketing campaign leaves many marketers stumped.? In this article I?ve included some helpful tips from Yap as well as some best practices for cross-channel optimization.
Consumers used to follow a very predictable path to close making it easy for marketers to create a series of touch points based on where the customer was in the buying cycle.? Today?s consumer however tend to follow a non-linear, and unpredictable path.
Your audience has also become fast and fickle.? What does that mean?? Customers want the information at their fingertips immediately, and have a tendency to change their minds very quickly.
Marketers no longer control the business relationship, the consumer does.
What Can You Do?
In order to connect with today?s consumer, you must understand who they are.? Segmenting your customers will help create more predictability of actions, therefore putting you more in tune with what path they may take.
There is an immediate need for marketers to integrate across channels, and understand how consumers use multiple devices for online consumption. ?Laptops, smartphones, and tablets have made it easier than ever for people to consume and share information. ?As a marketer how can you anticipate which device your audience will be using at any particular time in order to encourage conversion?
Say for example your customer uses their mobile phone when commuting on the train to read industry news on the way to work. ?When they get to work they?re likely using a desktop computer to read blogs and industry news. ?On the commute home they again use their mobile device to access information. ?Then when they get home out comes the tablet. ? While the consumer may just be thinking ?I was online? you as the marketer must consider which device they were using to access the information.
According to Yap, 44% of marketers state that managing multi-siloed campaigns is their biggest challenge.
What Can You Do?
You must be adaptable. ?The types of devices, and the way they function changes quickly so keeping up on these changes and having a plan a,b, and c is essential. ?You should know your data, and ask yourself some questions. ?How many of your consumers are coming from a mobile device? ?How do they interact with your site?
The need for speed in this industry is critical. ?If we are waiting 24 or even 12 hours we may be losing customers. ?We know that opportunity exists with responding immediately, not in hours or even minutes.
As you begin to make a shift in your search strategy, you must think about how this affects your business. ?As your focus changes from ?searching? to ?finding? the linkes of communication between multiple channels is a MUST.
If your customer is searching on your site for a product, it must be thought of in the context of everything they did in that search. ?Wouldn?t it help to know which sites they were looking at previously for those same terms, as well as related terms?
What Can You Do?
Identifying the information within the context of what your customers are searching for will help identify how best to target them now, and in the future. Determine how you can use this data to articulate the opportunity so that you can take action immediately.
One of the ways to address your data is through the use of analytics. ?Most likely you have metrics that are tracking clicks, bounce rates, keywords, etc. ?Upon reviewing analytics many marketers may see that a keyword is underperforming and immediately cut that keyword out of their strategy.
Instead of simply relying on the analytics, marketers must also consider the behaviors that are driving their business. ?These behaviors will feed into the business strategies that drive search.
What Can You Do?

Acer's itchy trigger-finger has caused it to launch two new Ice Cream Sandwich-powered smartphones before IFA kicks off next week. The Liquid Gallant comes in single (Solo) and dual-sim (Duo) variants, packing a 1GHz MT6575, 1GB RAM, a 4.3-inch qHD capacitive display, 5-megapixel camera and a 1,500mAh battery. It'll include 4GB on-board storage, which can be bolstered with microSD up to 32GB, there's 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR. The budget-nature of the specs gives us hope that it'll be moderately priced when the Duo arrives in September, rapidly followed by its single-sim kid brother -- with both available in "Gentle Black" and "Ceramic White."

What's so funny about papayas?
That's probably what presidential candidate Mitt Romney was asking himself as he finished up an interview with Miami's Radio Mamb? on Monday, a station mainly targeted at Cuban exiles.
According to Mediaite.com, in light of the governor's imminent campaign stop at convicted cocaine trafficker Reinaldo Bermudez' El Palacio de los Jugos (The Palace of Juices), host Carlos Santana asked Romney, ?They?re waiting for you with a mamey and a guayaba ? Cuban fruits ? here in Miami, do you like those??
?I am a big fan of mango, papaya, and guava,? Romney answered. Well of course he's a fan of papaya, it is a superfruit after all.
Santana, stifling his laughter, added. ?There are mangos there too.? Great, but will there be papayas there?
Oops. Turns out, context is everything. The reason the host giggled when hearing Romney's response was because for many Cubans, "papaya" is slang for "vagina."
Well that was awkward... but it was an inadvertent faux pas, nowhere in the same league as Romney's true gaffe in in March 2007, when he was moving ahead with his 2008 run at the presidency.
"Hugo Chavez has tried to steal an inspiring phrase ? 'Patria o muerte, venceremos.' It does not belong to him. It belongs to a free Cuba," Romney said.
Well actually the phrase belongs to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Unfortunately for Romney -- and according to TIME magazine -- it was directed at a "fiercely anti-Castro Latino Republican gathered for the Miami-Dade Lincoln Day Dinner."
Check out the audio of the interview with Radio Mamb? below:

Folks in North America may have to wait for the upcoming DVD or Blu-ray release to purchase the second season of Game of Thrones, but those in the UK have another option thanks to a new partnership between HBO UK and the Tesco-owned Blinkbox video-on-demand service. That deal sees both the second seasons of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire making their debut on the online service well ahead of their traditional home video releases, where they're also available alongside the first seasons of each show and a number of other newly available HBO titles. In the case of Game of Thrones, you'll pay £17.99 (or about $30) for each season or £1.79 (or $3) for individual episodes, and you can choose to either download or stream the episodes and view them on a variety of devices (including game consoles, the iPad and some smart TVs).

The best predictor of a good end is a good start. The old adage is true today as when first uttered it so long ago that no one can say clearly who first spoke these words. If it has to the education of young children that saying such enormous significance that hard to overestimate its importance. All learning and life experience is shaped by what happens to the child in the early years of his life. The influence of the family is of great importance, but the influence of educational opportunities for young children is both powerful and more efficient in some respects. For it is the influence of early childhood education, the attitude of a child determined to have formal education in primary or secondary.
Today?s world is a troubled place. We seem to be better hate each other. We seem less and less able people who are different than we think. In a world riddled with violence, crime, intimidation, chaos and unpredictability that we have to ask some important questions. Why is it that some children
Do not be violent?
Not to be tyrants?
Do not be depressed?
Do not shy away from yourself and others?
Do not give up in despair and life?
This may not be the deepest questions that will be in demand in today?s world, but they are among the most important. Where can I go to in order to recognize the answers to these questions? What do we know that can help us unpack the issues embedded in them, and with a vision of how care and education of young children arrive?
The answers to these and other issues relating to children are back from research about how the human brain grows and develops. Although we know a long way in just who we can prevent violence and depression, we learned a lot about how to promote the potential of the brain as an organ, so that children grow to be active members and productive members of society. Before some of the implications of this research, we need briefly to the five areas of development that all children go through during childhood.
Child Development Agreement
There are five areas of development that children experience as they grow into young adults. These steps are not in a predictable sequence, one after the other. They are not like the steps of a ladder leading to even higher levels. Rather, they are like a spiral of steps that a child repeatedly cycles mature, as they grow. At some point, the highest level can be achieved in a given area, but that does not mean that the child does not move to other areas of the spiral.
The five areas of child development are:
oPhysical
oIntellectual
oLinguistic
oEmotional
oSocial
You can easily stay through the use of rather unfortunate acronym ?job? in mind.
Physical development
This area of child development is certainly easier to understand and observe. Physical development includes: gross motor, fine motor, motor control, motor coordination and kinesthetic feedback. Briefly explain each of these.
oGross motor skills are the movements of large muscles of the legs, torso and arms.
oFine motor skills are small muscle movements of the fingers and hands.
MICROMOTOR control is the ability to move your muscles big and small.
MICROMOTOR coordination is the ability of the muscles in an elegant, flowing motion to postpone.
oKinaesthetic feedback is the body?s ability to receive a receipt for the muscles of the external environment, so that the person does not know where his body is placed in the room.
The intellectual development
This area covers the intelligence level of a child in general and the various aspects of intelligence which affected the overall level of general ability. Among the many aspects:
oVerbal capabilities, our ability to communicate with words of our ideas, attitudes, beliefs, thoughts and emotions.
onon-verbal skills, our ability, visual spatial abilities and skills to use to interpret the world around us.
Shared oAttention ability to focus interpret to a stimulus for a period of time sufficient to understand and maintain.
oConcentration-our ability to use attention to stimuli in different permutations that must be analyzed carefully juggle.
to coordinate oVisual-motor skills, the ability to movements of the eyes and hands to manipulate objects effectively.
oVisual-perceptual skills, the ability to analyze visual stimuli, without necessarily having to manually manipulate.
oMemory to visual or auditory (or kinesthetic same as in the case of remembering the dance steps) and can become a major subtypes are identified:
- Instant Recall the entrance way to keep long enough to immediately recall, when required to do,
- Take the short-term memory, the ability to input over a longer period of time, perhaps minutes or hours
- To store long-term memory capacity and recall input is good, after he was seen, perhaps days or months or years later,
Language development
Language development refers to the use of language. Like other areas of child development can be divided into subtypes.
Language oReceptive our ability to understand spoken language, when they heard
oExpressive language of our ability to use spoken language to communicate with other
the language of the oPragmatic ability, humor, irony, sarcasm and how to respond appropriately to what was said by another, or understand in demand, and know when to wait and listen
oSelf ? say the ability to use internal, silent language to reflect on problems to overcome, difficulties and delay pulse
oReasoning-the ability to think problems through talking, usually with himself, but loud at other times, draw up action plans with words
thought oCreative not necessarily a linguistic feature that I heard it here because many people use language creatively, in new and innovative (eg, Joyce, Beckett)
Emotional Development
This aspect of development and social development, is probably one of the most underrated, but still the most important to learn to live in the world. No matter how great mental, physical and speech we may be doomed to live a life of frustration and hard if we did not earn satisfactory emotional development. It includes:
Tolerance oFrustration ability to cope effectively when things do not go as we wanted or expected
oImpulse control the ability to think before acting and do nothing, what comes into our heads
To solve oAnger management skills, conflict without resorting to verbal or physical violence
Intelligence: pointer to the personal attitudes, beliefs and motivations to understand other
To understand oIntra-personal intelligence, our own attitudes, beliefs and motivations
Social Development
oSharing ask, how materials, including the use of another
oTurn make knowing when it?s your turn to do something and if you ask if you can
oCooperation skills to work with others to make a collective goal of the task
oCollaboration communication capacity of your entry, evidenced by the work of others.
Again, it is necessary to repeat that the emotional and social development, play an extremely important role in our ability to live with dignity and respect. In addition, largely determine how we, together with colleagues, bosses and their families, including life partner.
If we recognize that all children go through each area of development aid, we design educational program for those who are appropriate to their development. Most nurseries have done just that. Unfortunately, many succumb to the parameters in the early pushing and pushing children toward academic goals and purposes, sometimes almost obsessively. In fact, the curriculum is in our junior and senior infant classes largely developmentally inappropriate. It is much too centered teachers and parents, and too little focus on the child. Regardless, appropriate or inappropriate, it is not enough to focus on the development of children alone in our work with young children. We must begin, the possibility that rivals inside the brain of the child to recognize closed.
The human brain
Locked inside the brain are the ways that make us human. We are born with the ability to:
oLove hatred
The mistrust oPatience
Violence oTenderness
Ohope despair
Suspicion oTrust
Corruption oDignity
However oRespect
It is the responsibility of adults to solve the positive potential of the brain and prevent the negative to appear.
All educational experiences of children in early years, but also all other educational experiences of children throughout the school year to concentrate on the development of the positive potential that lies in the brain. The latest brain research, carried out largely by Dr. Bruce Perry, Texas, has six key strengths, each highlighted with brain growth and development must be a priority in the development of appropriate educational programs for young children.
Six strengths
Bruce Perry and his colleagues at the Child Trauma Academy in Texas, six strengths that are identified on the predictable sequence of growth and development of the brain involved. These six levels, if properly cared for and supported, will help to grow a child become a productive member of society. These are:
oAttachment
oSelf-regulation
oAffiliation
oAttunement
oTolerance
oRespect
Attachment
The first of the six major powers occurs in early childhood. It is the bond of love between the child and primary caregiver. Early attachment theorists of the designer as a primary caregiver, the mother, but it is now recognized that it might be the father, grandparents or anyone to be loved. The primary donor, if the service provides consistent and predictable for the child, what is known as a ?safe? investment. This is embraced in this rhythmic dance between the child and caregiver, love, hugs, smiles and sounds that happen reached between caregiver and child. If this dance is out of step, unpredictable, chaotic, or very contradictory ?unsafe? system formed. When attachments are secure child learns that he is lovable and loved, and to encourage the adults to care for and that the world is a safer place. When the attachment is insecure child learns differently.
As the child grows from a base of a secure connection, he or she is willing to love and to be a friend. Secure attachment provides the ability to form and maintain healthy emotional bonds with each other. System is the model through which we view the world and its people.
Self-regulation
Self-regulation is the ability to think before acting. Small children are not good at it, they learn these skills, as if they by caring adults who like to show you how to pause and think they grow out. Self-regulation is the ability to take note of our first instincts, like hunger, elimination, comfort and control. In other words, is the ability to defer gratification and to make to achieve it. Good self-regulation to prevent outbursts and tantrums and help us cope with stress and frustration around. This is a skill that must be learned in life and, like all great strengths, its roots in the neural connections deep inside the brain.
Affiliation
Affiliation is the glue for healthy human relationships. When children are raised in an environment and facilitate positive interaction with peers in a fun and creative group learning projects, they develop the strength of the affiliation. This is the ability to ?participate? and working with others to create something stronger and more durable than what is typically created by one person. Department can produce something stronger and more creative than what is being done by one. Department uses the consciousness of the child he or she is not an ?I? alone, but a ?we?.
Affinity
Harmonization is the force by more than ourselves to see beyond. It is the ability, strengths, needs, values and interests of others to recognize. Harmonization begins simply enough in childhood. A child for the first time realized that I?m a girl, it?s a boy. By the early years of training, it is more nuanced: He is from India and loves eating differently than mine, she is from Kenya and speak with an accent different from alignment I. helps children to see similarities and not differences, because the child continues to search for other ways to skin color and look of speaking, he begins to recognize them or that people are more alike than different. This brings us to the following main strength.
Tolerance
If the child is the great strength of tuning he developed was told that the difference is not really all that matters. The child learns that the difference is easily tolerated. With these skills the child develops an awareness that is the difference that unites all human beings. Tolerance is dependent on the harmonization and requires patience and the ability to live and learn with people who seem at first sight ?different?. We must overcome the fear before the difference is tolerant.
Respect
The main strength is least, respect. Respect is a lifelong process of development. Respect extends to self-esteem compared to the others. It is important to develop the force last, a proper environment and the possibility of a large number of people required to meet. Real respect for diversity and celebrate it looks. Children, other children, this core competence developed to meet not shy away from people who seem different. An environment in which many children gathered to learn, explore, play and promotes the greatest level of respect.
How the brain develops
The brain develops from bottom to top. Each of the fundamental forces, with a growth phase and location of the brain is connected. Be acquired in early childhood attachment relationships, and was deeply emotional signals in the brain. At the same time, the brain stem to see that can regulate body functions themselves. Later in childhood, which controlled the emotional centers of the brain is growing tantrums, and so lost control of their child?s emotional life. Mid-childhood child?s brain begins to think and reflect on the ability of the external environment to develop. This is the phase where the frontal regions of the brain begin to mature, and it is at this stage of brain development when the basic forces of membership, harmonization, tolerance and respect to age well.
The classrooms and core competencies of the brain
The education of young children should be carried out with the fundamental forces in the eye. Classroom where there is peace and harmony under a variety of children, creating opportunities for belonging, tolerance and respect to develop. These classrooms should be characterized by the play, creative exploration of objects, lessons based on activities rather than the classroom teacher. It must challenge the brain in the form of teaching and innovative teaching methods. Cooperative learning activities must be part of the school day. The classroom is sometimes a possibility, in a cooperative, there are mixed-ability group work involved. It has a long-term opportunity to explore thematic projects. The teacher should be a leader, teacher, always with the most important forces in his eye, always observing children and noting that they need more structure and guidance as they grow through the most important assets. The teacher must also perceive somebody kids, so predictable and attentive, patient and kind, someone who does not obsessively focus will be on error.
Who is responsible?
We learned that the child?s brain develops in a predictable sequence and related to growth are six major benefits for a healthy life in the world. Each child has a brain, who rely on the full potential of these assets was born. However, every brain is able, with a classroom and the house that interact with the development of these forces makes it easier. It is the responsibility of adults, especially parents and teachers to do things.

CHICAGO -- The red-brick Georgian Revival home was gleaming: An American flag extended from the porch, the evergreen trees surrounding the yard were pruned and the red impatiens and begonias were blooming. Guests mingled at tables covered with stylish lime-colored tablecloths and listened to light jazz before their host said a few words.
Just a nice summertime garden party on a Sunday ? along with beefy Secret Service agents, the buzz of a motorcade waiting outside, and a black pole extending high over the corner of the property, dotted with surveillance equipment and cameras.
"Welcome to my house!" said President Barack Obama, greeting donors at his South Side home. "I have to say, the lawn hasn't looked this good in a while. But I figured, but at least Michelle figured, that if everyone was coming over we ought to neaten up a little bit."
Obama opened up his home in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood for a marquee fundraiser, welcoming about 75 of his top donors who wished the president a belated happy birthday ? No. 51 ? and gave big bucks to his re-election campaign. It was part of a full day of hometown fundraising for Obama, who was expected to haul in $3.5 million to $4 million to fuel his campaign against Republican Mitt Romney.
The president was among friends, noting that many in the audience knew him "when I barely owned a suit," a reference to his time as a community organizer during the mid-1980s. "This place is where I learned about the importance of bringing communities together to solve problems."
Michelle Obama wasn't there, instead raising money for her husband's campaign at events in Los Angeles. But the president reminded guests that she was born and raised in Chicago, where they met and started a family. "I think it's fair to say I'm an adopted son of the South Side."
Obama's weekend fundraising trip had all the trappings of a local homecoming, right down to the crowds gathered by the nearby Pancake House to cheer on his motorcade on Saturday night and a banner hanging on a fence a few blocks from his home that said, "Happy Birthday President Obama."
The weekend offered a rare two-night stay for Obama at his house. The president stayed at a hotel during NATO meetings in June because of security concerns. He arrived on Saturday afternoon and met advisers at his Chicago campaign headquarters, then grabbed dinner with friends at a local eatery called Piccolo Sogno Due, which means "Little Dream 2" in Italian.
During his Chicago sojourn, his motorcade swept past Grant Park several times, letting him look at the park where throngs of supporters cheered his victory on election night in 2008. He could look out the window and see Soldier Field, home of his beloved Chicago Bears, and watch the final day of the Olympic Games on television.
Making his own Olympic analogy, Obama told his donors ? most of whom paid $40,000 per person to attend ? that the 2012 election wasn't going to turn out like a Usain Bolt race, referring to the dominant Jamaican sprinter who was so fast he could jog to the finish line. "We're going to have to run through the tape. But we're really well positioned to not just win but to keep America moving forward."
By dusk, with temperatures in the mid-70s, the president was ready for an evening stroll.
His next fundraiser was at the home of Marty Nesbitt, one of his closest friends, followed by another at the home of Barbara Bowman, the mother of Valerie Jarrett, a longtime adviser and friend.
Nesbitt's home was so close that the president decided to walk, slinging his black blazer over his left shoulder while he was trailed by Secret Service agents and his entourage. He shook hands with cheering neighbors and gave a local TV crew a presidential shout-out for his favorite baseball team, the Chicago White Sox.
"Nice to be home?" shouted a member of the press corps.
"It's always nice to be home," Obama said. "A little cooler than Washington, isn't it?"

We all know Scotland is the home of golf and as such you would assume there are a fair few golf courses dotted around its remarkable landscape. Surprisingly given its size, Scotland is in fact home to over 550 golf courses, some of which are among the very best in the world. From the age old St Andrews Links to the impossibly tranquil surrounds of Gleneagles in Perthshire, Scotland has it all when it comes to golf and although famous names like Turnberry, Kingsbarns and Royal Troon grab most people?s attention, there are countless other golf courses, hotels and resorts that offer some of the best value for money to be found anywhere in Europe. If you?re on the verge of booking your next well deserved golf break you must consider the country where it all started and to give you a helping hand here are five of the best golf breaks for less than ?150?
Inchmarlo Resort & Golf Centre
OFFER ? 1 Night, Dinner, B&B & Unlimited Golf ? ?124
Golf in Scotland is not all about battling it out with the elements on age old links courses and at the Inchmarlo Resort you will find a stunning parkland course that takes advantage of its truly breathtaking location in the heart of Aberdeenshire. Boasting a superb 27-hole golfing complex, including the stunning Laird?s Course and the picturesque 9-hole Queen?s, and a collection of luxury apartments and villas, Inchmarlo has plenty to offer the travelling golfer.
The Laird?s Course has been hailed by many as a ?highland treasure? and was also named the Best New British Course after opening in 2001, highlighting the fact that this is now one of Scotland?s best inland courses. The heather-topped mountains protected by a blanket of trees provide the perfect setting for wildlife, fauna and a stunning golf course.
?
Inchmarlo?s Laird Course is one of the most picturesque in Scotland and depending on the tee you choose to play from can offer a decent challenge to golfers of all shapes and sizes.
?
Nestled in the foothills of the Grampians, the Laird?s Course epitomizes golf in the north east of Scotland. Players must safely negotiate tree-lined fairways, secluded two-tiered greens and the odd water hazard but perhaps the most difficult thing will be to concentrate on the golf and not the intoxicating surrounding scenery.
The luxurious Inchmarlo Resort Hotel completes the package here and ensures that golfers are well looked after and entertained away from the course.
Machrihanish Dunes
OFFER ? 1 Night, B&B & 2 Rounds of Golf ? ?99
From the tranquil Aberdeenshire countryside to the southernmost tip of the rugged Kintyre Peninsula, we find ourselves at Machrihanish Dunes which is home to a relatively young yet truly spectacular championship links course as well as a number of brilliant accommodation options such as the Ugadale Hotel, the Royal Hotel and the charming Ugadale Cottages.
While luxury accommodation is all part and parcel of the perfect golf break, it is the golf course where the real excitement starts and at Machrihanish Dunes you won?t even make it to the first tee before the golfing juices are flowing, thanks largely to the course?s magnificent location.
?
The ?god given? Machrihahish Dunes is one of the only true links courses to have appeared on the golf scene in the last few decades.
?
While there are some 32,000 golf courses worldwide, only 270 of those can truly be classed as links. However, the astonishing Machrihanish Dunes, opened in mid 2009, can certainly be added to this elite collection. On a parcel of land first recognised for its golfing potential by Old Tom Morris more than 130 years ago, his vision has been realised by David McLay Kidd, the precocious course architect made famous by his creations at Bandon Dunes, Oregon and the Castle Course, St Andrews.
Measuring 7,300 yards, Machrihanish Dunes will feature six greens and five tees on the water?s edge, making this one of the most spectacular new golfing experiences in the world that can be enjoyed by golfers of all shapes and sizes. Golfers visiting Machrihanish can expect to find all the ingredients of a classic links. Fast running, undulating fairways weave their way through enormous dunes and among tall, whispy rough while quick, sloping greens are well protected by rugged bunkers and devilish little run off areas. It is likely that you will use every last club in your bag during a round at Machrihanish Dunes which is hailed by many as ?the most natural golf course? in the world. It has been said that the natural terrain produced 23 ?natural holes?, meaning that minimal work is required in constructing the course, and the designer needed only to choose his favourite 18.
Macdonald Spey Valley Championship Resort
OFFER ? 1 Night, Dinner, B&B & 2 Rounds of Golf ? ?129
Like Inchmarlo, The Macdonald Spey Valley Championship Resort has been highlighted as one of the best golf resorts to have opened in Scotland in recent years. Set in the famed Scottish Highlands, Spey Valley is without doubt one of the most picturesque courses in the whole of Europe and it?s not just its breathtaking location that makes this resort the golfing haven that it is.
The course at Spey Valley was designed by Dave Thomas, who also designed the famous Brabazon Course at The Belfry by the way, and while the course was only opened for play in 2006, it is already mature far beyond its years and will no doubt mature further still as the years tick by.
?
Like famous Scottish names including Gleneagles, Spey Valley is set in some truly breathtaking scenery.
?
Measuring a healthy 7, 153 yards from the tips, Spey Valley can certainly hold its own when the big hitters come to play but a number of different tee positions allow golfers of all abilities to enjoy a game. Although the course is seen by many as a procession of gorgeous hole after gorgeous hole, there are few who would argue that the par 5 16th is the signature hole on the course. Measuring a whopping 641 yards, this is a true three shot par 5 where even the longest hitters will struggle to get home in two. Throughout Spey Valley golfers can expect pristine fairways lined by mature trees, choppy rough and banks of purple heather strewn across the floor, waiting to gobble up any stray golf balls that may come their way.
With the towering peaks of the Cairngorms National Park acting as a backdrop, there really are few finer places to enjoy a round of golf in the great outdoors.
Accommodation at the Aviemore Resort is a plenty but two hotels come with a YGT recommendation. The Macdonald Highlands Hotel and the Macdonald Four Seasons Hotel both offer comfortable accommodation, excellent leisure facilities including a lavish spa at the Highlands Hotel and a number of fantastic restaurants including Aspects, the signature restaurant for the best in local cuisine. After your meal here it would be rude not to enjoy night-cap in The Laggan, whisky and cocktail bar. With 100 single malts on offer, including over 60 from the Speyside area, even the connoisseur will be spoiled for choice!
Cameron House
OFFER ? 1 Night, Dinner, B&B & 2 Rounds of Golf ? ?139
Loch Lomond, long time host of the Scottish Open before its move to the amazing Castle Stuart, has long been regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the world but unfortunately for us, it is also an ultra-exclusive club where only the cr?me de la cr?me, also known as member?s friends, need apply. However in Cameron House we have found our saviour as it is also set on the shores of the impossibly beautiful Loch Lomond and is available to play on your next Scottish Golf Holiday.
Since its official opening in 2006, The Carrick has fully vindicated all the attention heaped on it during its planning and construction, and is without doubt now one of the most exciting new courses to play in Scotland.
?
The Carrick is an excellent course in its own right and gives golfers a little taste of life at Loch Lomond.
?
Stretched along the Loch Lomond shoreline, the course is bordered by delightful banks of heather and gorse, which are typical of this classically Scottish landscape. The front and back nines on The Carrick are different in character with the front nine being played largely on the low lying land around the Loch before the back nine takes you on a journey into the higher grounds of the highlands before returning back to the clubhouse.
Golfers will face a variety of hazards along the way round this stunning course with the Loch coming into play on a number of holes, particularly at the start of the round, but perhaps the biggest distraction will be the amazing surrounding landscape. Be sure to have your camera ready at the 14th tee. This par 3, also known as ?Tappet Doon?, is the signature hole on the course and offers great views of the Loch and Ben Lomond to the north.

?
There are few hotels that can boast a location like the Old Course Hotel, overlooking the world famous 17th on the Old Course.
?
While The Old Course Hotel is within touching distance of a number of the world?s best golf courses ? think the St Andrews Old Course, Kingsbarns and the Carnoustie Championship Course ? its own course, the mighty Duke?s is excellent and a must play for those who have had their fill of the St Andrews Links.
The Duke?s Course was designed by five-time Open champion Peter Thomson CBE, and has been highly regarded since its opening in 1995. However, with Herb Kohler?s takeover of the Old Course Hotel and the Duke?s, there has been significant investment, which in recent years has resulted in the course coming on leaps and bounds and now being reminiscent in places of one of the world?s greatest courses, Whistling Straits. ?Played from the tips, this is the longest golf course in Scotland, and it represents the perfect accompaniment to the classic tracks at St Andrews Links.
