5 Hot Social Media Tips for Your Career & Job Search | Link Humans

Recruitment specialist James Mayes gave great pieces of advice on September 13th on social media and careers. With enlightened employers getting around on social platforms, online connections are nowadays leading to offline relationships! You will find a summary here of what was said and explained. You can also check James Mayes? slides posted below in the article. Enjoy!

?

1.?Use LinkedIn as a shop window of yourself

?

In order to be found, the key is to optimise your profile by following several tips. Firstly, be human! That can seem pretty easy to say, but don?t hesitate to increase your visibility by building a real person behind the profile: a customised content, a face, a name!

Secondly, be straightforward and clear: try to find the appropriate keywords that describe you the best (this part is both quite hard and crucial!).

Finally, make a difference: share relevant articles or thoughts that are related to the industry/company you wish to work for. Your future employer will see it!

?

2. Tweet and Find Out Who is Talking About You

?

Being efficient on twitter is all about mastering tools & techniques. The key word is: dare! If you?re looking for a job, mention it enough and let people know. Twitter is a very fast going tool so don?t assume people to know about you unless you decide to communicate.

Explore all the possibilities using #Hashtags, @Mentions and Events! Also, try to build a quality following. Great tools can help you manage sometimes-overwhelming contents, such as Hootsuite or TweetDeck.

?

3. Facebook: Not Just Social

?

If most of us are using Facebook in a social/friendly way, let?s not forget that your own image is publicly available to potential recruiters.

Using Facebook requires one big decision regarding the strategy we want to apply: how can we manage our personal and professional life on the same platform? Should we have one fake professional profile and an actual personal one? Or should we just have a one and only profile, no matter what?s on it? To that question, try to be coherent, definitely. Facebook has really improved its security and share settings, giving us many possibilities on whom to share content with.

A Facebook profile is a great tool when it comes to personal branding. Get on it and be the manager of what appears to reflect who you are!

?

4. Combine a Home Online and Sucessful Search Techniques

?

All those great tools combined with a relevant online presence can lead to a real home online. Think about your online footprint, your contribution and personal branding. It can be all there, through Blogs, Youtube, Tumblr, and of course Social Networks. Let the perfect job find YOU for a change!

Maximize the use of all those social platforms: measure your influence on twitter with Klout, or search relevant Hashtags and keywords for example.

?

5. To Conclude: Define an Action Plan!

?

-?????? Define Your Goal

-?????? Align Your Existing Footprint

-?????? Plan Future Content Strategy

-?????? Create New Profiles as Required

-?????? Crouch? Touch?Pause?Engage!
?
