3:30 PM: Joseph Buffis, chief of police of the town of Lee, Massachusetts, is facing extortion & money laundering charges. Buffis is accused of making people facing prostitution-related charges to donate $4,000 to a holiday toy fund then taking the money for himself.

3:15 PM: A Holyoke, Massachusetts man arrested on drug charges last month claimed he was St. Louis Rams rookie cornerback Robert Steeples. The man turned out to be Michael Roper, an adopted cousin of Steeples, who gave police Steeples' Social Security number & address when he was arrested.

3:00 PM: The Newark Star Ledger reports that despite other reports saying the team will be taken over by the NHL, the New Jersey Devils could be sold to a new owner in the next couple of days. Among those interested in the Devils is Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris.

2:45 PM: Former UNLV & Fresno State basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian turns 83 years old today. But Tarkanian's son Danny says that Jerry is "not doing well" after having a pacemaker installed two weeks ago.

2:30 PM: Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber said he never got along with Tom Coughlin, recalling that he once dropped a "thousand F-bombs" in a 40-minute argument with the head coach in 2006.

12:00 PM: The Akron Beacon Journal reports that LeBron James, who reported for jury duty Thursday morning, was not selected for a trial and had left the Summit County Courthouse by 10:30 a.m. local time.
